I feel like my life is reflected so clearly in your column. it is as if we live parallel lives on so many levels (kids, the husband, schools, army, aliyah, etc). I have enjoyed your articles so much over the years, from the B’nei Akiva article, to the Locked Door, which I have put on my refrigerator and not taken down, to the most recent Go With the Flow. It seems that every situation you write about I can relate to, and I laugh out loud each time. I look forward to your column, and it is the first thing I read in the Magazine.

Keep up the good work. And keep on eating french fries in pita!

Your view about the Golan Heights is fine. Let me add that the Golan has been annexed already. The Knesset should take a vote to affirm the 1967 annexation and send a letter to Kerry asking him to respect Israeli democracy and fly to Jerusalem to meet our assistant foreign minister Hotovly to learn why the Golan has been annexed in 1967.

I have been reading your column in the Jerusalem Post for many years. While doing some Pesach cleaning, I came across an article that you wrote on March 30, 2001, called “The Bread of Affliction”. It’s amazing how time flies, and yet how some things stay the same. I had thought the article was beautiful and so clipped it out and saved it. I still do!
Best wishes to you and your family for a Happy Pesach,
Trudy Zuckermann

Comment on PM will give another strong speech at UN, but does it matter? by Batya Spiegelman Medad http://www.herbkeinon.com/2015/09/24/pm-will-give-another-strong-speech-at-un-but-does-it-matter/#comment-6555 Fri, 25 Sep 2015 04:10:47 +0000 http://www.herbkeinon.com/?p=952#comment-6555 The title says it all, Herb. It drives me nuts how people get all excited about good speeches when they are no more than theatre. Speeches aren’t policy, and policy is action not words.

First, anyone such as myself who cooks primarily Sefardi (or Mexican) food knows that cilantro/ cusbara goes in almost everything. Unless you need parsley. That’s a whole machlochet right there. Second, why not the shuk? They rarely run out. And third, the predominantly Ashkenazi areas stock much less cilantro than in the sefardi supermarkets, fyi. And it’s better quality.

I totally agree! Christians are the staunchest supporter of Israel, -ALL of Israel, believing that the Almighty Himself decided who will ‘settle’ His land. Christians do vote and do let their rep’s know where they stand. God bless Mike Huckabee and God bless Israel!

Comment on On the passing of my father-in-law by Susan Hersh Sachs http://www.herbkeinon.com/2015/07/30/on-the-passing-of-my-father-in-law/#comment-5482 Sun, 02 Aug 2015 07:10:41 +0000 http://www.herbkeinon.com/?p=889#comment-5482 Beautiful, touching, thoughtful article. You so articulately describe the loss that comes with the gain of aliya. The separation from close family is the hardest personal aspect of our bifurcated diaspora – Israeli existence, even the modern hi-tech age
. Most interesting that you don’t describe the loss that many family members do when they have a relative with Alzheimer’s – a loss often perceived as lasting a decade or more during the period of degenerating skills – because your father-in-law, despite the decline in memory and cognition apparently held onto the best of who he had been, and you guys probably helped him do that. Condolences and best wishes for your own best memories to bring consolation.
